Mt. Olympus – The Summit

For my girlfriend Jill’s birthday this past Monday, three of my girlfriends and myself met at 7 am and hiked Mount Olympus. I have only been on this trail once and that was about 3 years ago, at that time we only hiked a 1/3 of the way up. But on Monday we hiked to the Summit!! Mount Olympus is a very difficult hike…in fact the last quarter of the hike is climbing boulders straight up. The base of Mount Olympus is around 4800 FT, it’s a 3 mile hike straight up to the Summit which is about 9800 FT at the top.  It was by far the most difficult hike I have ever done. Making it to the Summit and sitting up there with three of my close friends was a remarkable experience and I was so proud of all of us for accomplishing this…I truly feel that when women get together whether it be friends, sisters, mothers and daughters there really is nothing we can’t accomplish together..

This first photo below on the left is of a mailbox surrounded by rocks that sits at the top of the Summit. Inside the mailbox is a pen and notepad..every person who Summits Mt Olympus writes in their name, the date and something they may want to say of significance. It was very meaningful.

You can see the boulders that we are climbing are huge!  But then…we reach the top!! Here the girls are signing in their names…

One of the many views from the top – all of the Valley and beyond!

I encourage anyone who loves to hike to make it a goal to hike Mt Olympus, you won’t regret it!!

365 is back…

I just have to thank those of you once again who have left comments on Bab’s Celebration..I know I thanked people a few days ago in a post..however I am still getting the most heartfelt comments from new people and I just really wanted to say thank you…thank you so much for your words..I know that they mean everything to Bab’s family.

I have been meaning to post my 365 photos everyday now and everyday slips by…so beware because I am about to post 18 days worth of this project..so photo overload ahead…I am entering a new phase of this project..at first when I started it was something “new” to do, then boredom ensued because I just was so tired of having to constantly think about the “next photo and the next day” and what was I going to do…but now I am coming to a new phase and that is one of excitement and looking at the world in a different way each day..how many times have I just walked by a leave with raindrops falling on it and thought nothing of it..but now it’s a new oppourtunity to photograph it. Or my dogs leash…I walk him almost everyday and then I started looking at his leash differently..the way it spirals around in my hand as we walk proved interesting so I took my camera out. It’s been these little things that have made this project worth pursueing..it hasn’t been easy but I am enjoying it…I hope a few of you are too..

so here are days 137-155/365

A Easter Egg Hunt

I have so many pictures from SF, so be prepared to be overloaded! On Friday evening my sister in law took me down the street to their local neighborhood park for a belated easter egg hunt for the kids. It was organized by some mom’s on the block and it was such a great time!! What a fun idea, right? The kids had a blast searching for eggs and running around.I really envy my brother’s neighborhood..everyone knows each other, they sit outside and talk and their kids play together, they organize fun events like this all the time. There is a strong sense of community in the neighborhood..which I think a lot of people are suprised by in SF..people think because it’s such a big city people kind of keep to themselves..but that is not the case.

p.s. images are film and digital. if you want a little fun thing to do and are extremely bored, ha! ha! go back through some previous posts, many of what I have been posting is film.

san francisco continued…

I think I leave a bit of my heart behind everytime I have to leave San Francisco. I adore that city, everything about it I love. So on Friday when I had a day to myself I was so excited to just go and explore on foot. So about  two blocks from my brothers house is the most adorable market so that is where I found myself. everytime I come into town we seem to stop here for one thing or another..this is why I love San Francisco. On every corner their are markets just like this. I love that I can go in here and buy fresh organic fruit or buy a fresh cup of coffee and sit at their little table and read the paper or pick up one of the many art books they have piled in the corner and browse through them.

You decide – do you like it in focus?

Or out of focus?

Does a photo always have to be “in focus” to be considered interesting?

I like the one out of focus, I think it makes a normal everyday coffee cup just a bit more interesting..by the way I love coffee!! Love the smell of it, love tasting it, love everything about it!

Leave me a comment and let me know which one you like better!! Come on, don’t be shy!
