1/365 and the fall, meds and snow

It was snowing hard yesterday, I was in a rush to get to the car and as I was walking down the stairs outside I fell – hard. To make a long story short, I went to the ER and had x-rays and a drip of morphine..severe pain I tell you. In fact the only thing I can compare it with is giving birth to my son naturally without pain medication and that fall yesterday was more painful to me then childbirth.  The good news? No broken bones, just swelling and deep bruising…so here I am on the couch, watching the snow fall and taking my meds. Fun day, eh?

As I have been laying here, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my goals both personal and professional. I have always been a goal setter, every year I take out my pad and pen and write my “new year’s resolutions.” Sometimes I never look at the list I made again because I already know what it says in my mind but for some reason writing out the goals helps make it more real rather then just part of my imagination. So for the last couple of days I have put pen to paper and wrote down things I want to have happen this year. One of those goals is to take one picture a day. It does not matter what the subject is, could be anything at all, but I have to do it for 1 year and the picture has to have been taken that day, one new picture everyday and I have to post that picture on my blog. Why, am I doing this you ask?

I think for me it will just help me grow as a photographer and by posting it on my blog it will hold me to my word, hopefully it will help me see things in a way that I haven’t seen them before and perhaps it will help me appreciate the beauty I am surrounded by everyday but often forget. No fancy pictures here, just everyday life – plain and simple.

What better one to start this project with then this?

beautiful…snow

Those that live here in Utah know what I am talking about right now..it’s been nonstop snowstorms for several days now…I won’t complain though. I love the snow. Nothing makes me happier…I love getting bundled up and putting boots, scarves and hats on..there is just something so incredibly beautiful after a snowfall, the stillness in the air, the quietness..it makes me pause to stop and marvel at the beauty around me and for that I am so thankful. So maybe today just for a few minutes step outside your own door and marvel at the beauty around you…I promise it’s there.

Happy Halloween

Hope you have a wonderful spooky day!!

Landscape

Sometimes the perfect day is just my camera, nature and me.
